CHANGÁ: Griot Moves
Dec 03, 2026
From: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Film, scholarship and a live domino activation explore Caribbean diaspora, storytelling and cultural memory during Miami Art Week in North Miami. CHANGÁ: Griot Moves takes place Thursday, December 3 at Maison AfriKin inside the Scott Galvin Community Center. Presented by AfriKin, the morning program is part of GRIOT: Urgent Storytelling for Our Times, the 12th Annual AfriKin Art Fair’s curatorial theme.
The program centers on a screening of Changá, a documentary co-directed by Francio Guadeloupe and Manpreet Brar that uses the Caribbean game of dominoes to examine Dutch Caribbean communities in the Netherlands. Featuring artists including Juny Martina, Ray Fuego, Amy Miyu and Earthquake Brass Band, the film connects music, play, philosophy and everyday social life as expressions of diaspora and belonging.
Following the screening, Guadeloupe will give a keynote address and join an open conversation with attendees. A live domino activation closes the program, inviting guests to engage the game as both cultural practice and participatory art. Light breakfast is included, and seating is limited.
