Chava & Charlie: How My Grandparents Fell In Love

A new musical based on a family love story brings history, romance and resilience to the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. CHAVA & CHARLIE – How My Grandparents Fell In Love: A New Musical takes place Sunday, January 17, with performances at 3 and 8 p.m. Presented by the City of Aventura, the South Florida theatrical concert premiere features a book by Cary Gitter, music by Neil Berg and lyrics by Berg and Gitter.

Set in 1933, the story follows Charlie, a Polish-born Jew who returns to Rovno after a decade in America in search of a bride. There he meets Chava, a determined young woman focused on education and her dream of becoming a scholar. As Charlie courts her, their connection develops against the backdrop of rising antisemitism and an increasingly uncertain world.

Rooted in a true family story, the musical blends warmth, humor and historical memory in a portrait of love shaped by hope, persistence and survival.
