Chucho Valdés 85th Birthday Celebration

Afro-Cuban jazz pianist Chucho Valdés marks his 85th birthday with a concert at the Adrienne Arsht Center featuring special guests Joe Lovano and Terence Blanchard. The performance takes place Saturday, October 3, at 8 p.m. as part of the Arsht Center’s Live at Knight series. The program celebrates Valdés’ six-decade career as a pianist, composer and arranger whose work has helped shape modern Afro-Cuban jazz.

An NEA Jazz Master and multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy Award winner, Valdés is known for expanding the vocabulary of Afro-Cuban music through jazz, classical and Cuban rhythmic traditions. For this birthday celebration, he is joined by saxophonist Joe Lovano and trumpeter Terence Blanchard, two major figures in contemporary jazz.
