Climate Capsule: Exploring Climate Resiliency
Mar 20, 2026
From: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
A panel discussion during Miami Climate Week examines how climate change intersects with accessibility, human rights and community resilience. Climate Capsule: Exploring Climate Resiliency takes place Friday, March 20 at the Historic Hampton House.
The program opens with a session focused on disability-accessible climate resilience planning in Miami. Hosted by the Advocacy Network on Disabilities, the discussion brings together disability advocates, emergency management officials, public health professionals and environmental partners to address the impacts of extreme heat, flooding and hurricanes on vulnerable populations. Speakers including Irenaida Diaz and Carlos Kaiser will discuss strategies for improving preparedness and integrating accessibility into local climate planning efforts.
Beginning at noon, the event shifts to a second panel exploring climate relocation and its social implications, including how rising sea levels and development pressures are reshaping communities across Miami and other coastal regions. The conversation will consider issues such as the growing demand for higher-elevation neighborhoods, the human rights dimensions of climate displacement and the policies needed to protect communities facing relocation. Panelists include Dr. Marcie Washington of Florida International University’s Commons for Justice and Dr. Erica Bower of Human Rights Watch.
The program offers an opportunity for residents, advocates and policymakers to engage in discussions about inclusive climate resilience and the social impacts of environmental change.
