Crónica de un suceso

A tribute to one of flamenco’s most influential figures unfolds through movement, memory and avant-garde expression in this contemporary dance work by acclaimed choreographer Rafael Ramírez.

Crónica de un suceso (Chronicle of a Time that Was) takes place Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2 at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. Presented by the City of Aventura in partnership with FUNDarte, the performance is part of FUNDarte’s annual FL.Flamencos series and the Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s “Away From Home” program.

Produced by Spain Flamenco Arts, the piece pays homage to the legacy of Antonio Gades (1936–2004), whose visionary work helped redefine flamenco in the 20th century. Rather than portray Gades’s life, Ramírez reflects on key turning points in his own creative journey, exploring how Gades’s radical approach continues to shape flamenco today.

A frequent performer at renowned tablaos such as El Corral de la Morería in Madrid, Ramírez has danced with leading Spanish companies including those of Antonia Andrade, Carmen Mota, David Coria, Rafaela Carrasco and María Pagés. This U.S. tour brings his striking interpretation of Gades’s impact to new audiences, illuminating flamenco’s evolution while pushing the form in bold new directions.
