Dance NOW! Miami presents: Oceanica and Other Works

Marine life, cultural exchange and nightclub energy shape an evening of contemporary dance by Dance NOW! Miami at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. Taking place Saturday, May 8, the company’s Program III brings together repertory and a world premiere spanning environmental themes, international collaboration and theatrical storytelling.
Co-Artistic Director Diego Salterini’s Oceanica explores the ocean as both a powerful force and a fragile ecosystem. The full ensemble moves between ballet, modern dance and jazz vocabulary to evoke marine life and the shifting environments between the ocean floor and surface.
The program also features the world premiere of Crocevie/Crossroads, created by Salterini and Co-Artistic Director Hannah Baumgarten as part of the company’s cultural exchange with Italy. The work examines parallels between Naples and Miami through movement, language and history, accompanied by an original score from Neapolitan composer and pianist Sara Amoresano and video projections by Alex Amoresano.
Baumgarten’s House on Fire, first created in 2009, returns to the repertory with a setting inspired by an underground nightclub, blending romance, intensity and high-energy ensemble movement.
