Denève: Brahms 3
Dec 12, 2026 - Dec 13, 2026
Sat: 7:30 PM | Sun: 2:00 PM
Brahms’ Third Symphony shares the program with contemporary works by Missy Mazzoli and Kevin Puts in a New World Symphony concert led by Stéphane Denève. Denève: Brahms 3 takes place Saturday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 13 at 2 p.m. at the New World Center in Miami Beach. The program also marks the New World Symphony debut of Time for Three, the Grammy-winning string trio featured in Puts’ concerto Contact.
The concert opens with Brahms’ Symphony No. 3, a compact and deeply expressive work known for its sweeping first movement and lyrical third movement. After intermission, NWS Conducting Fellow Ziwei Ma leads Mazzoli’s Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres), a short orchestral work with swirling, kinetic textures. The program closes with Puts’ Contact, written for Time for Three and organized in three movements: “The Call,” “Codes” and “Contact.”
Time for Three brings together violinists Nicolas “Nick” Kendall and Charles Yang with double bassist Ranaan Meyer, blending classical performance with Americana, singer-songwriter and improvisatory influences. Denève, New World Symphony’s Artistic Director, is also Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic.
