Dlo Sakre: A Celebration of Agwe in Dance + Film
Jan 25, 2026
From: 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
An immersive afternoon of dance, ritual and film-centered performance honors Agwe and the sacred role of water in African diasporic traditions.
Dlo Sakre: A Celebration of Agwe in Dance + Film takes place Sunday, January 25 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center. This installment of the two-day Dlo Sakre program focuses on live, participatory experiences that blend movement, music and spiritual practice, inviting attendees into a shared exploration of water as a source of memory, connection and resilience.
The program includes a live Agwe dance performance, a Haitian folkloric dance workshop with live drumming featuring the Parigol and Mayi rhythms, and an altar activation with an opening invocation to bless and ground the space. Participating artists include Portsha T. Jefferson, Manbo Dr. Charlene Désir, Maestro Q, Mèt Tèt Designs and members of the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus Jubilation Dance Ensemble. Attendees are encouraged to wear white and ocean-inspired hues and to bring a dance skirt if available.
Admission is available at the door with a suggested offering of $30, with presale options offered in advance. This gathering emphasizes movement, reflection and communal celebration in honor of Agwe and the waters that carry shared histories across the African Diaspora.
