Enlightenment Festival: Romantic at St. Sophia
Feb 27, 2025
Starting: 7:30 PM
On Thursday, February 27, Seraphic Fire presents an evening of Romantic choral music at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral as part of their annual Enlightenment Festival. Under the direction of conductor James K. Bass, the performance will feature a chorus, vocal soloists, and piano, with scholarly insights from Andrew H. Weaver of The Catholic University of America. The program offers a thoughtful blend of works by both well-known and underrecognized composers of the Romantic era, including pieces by Clara and Robert Schumann, Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Franz Schubert and Johannes Brahms. Highlights include Clara Schumann’s Gondoliera, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s Schilflied and Brahms’ O Schöne Nacht.
