Rare butterflies and citizen science come into focus during a seasonal guided walk through Deering Estate’s natural habitats. Explore Rare Butterflies on a Guided Walk takes place on the fourth Saturday of the month from June through September, with tours scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon. The walk introduces visitors to the estate’s butterfly habitat and encourages observation of native flora and fauna.
Deering Estate is home to nearly 40 butterfly species, including rare species such as the Ruddy Daggerwing, Dina Yellow and Atala. During the guided tour, guests will visit areas of the estate where butterflies are commonly found and may document their sightings through the iNaturalist app as part of a citizen science effort.
General admission is $18 for adults and $10 for youth ages 4-14, with admission free for Deering Estate Foundation members. All guests, including members, must sign up at the Main Gate before the tour begins. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
