Family Day at The Bass
Oct 26, 2025 - Aug 30, 2026
monthly on the last Sunday
From: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Families can spend an afternoon immersed in creativity, exploration and hands-on artmaking at The Bass during this monthly program designed for children of all ages.
Each session features in-person activities in the Bass Creativity Center, where all materials are provided to encourage artistic play and experimentation. Families can also embark on an interactive art exploration of the museum’s exhibitions using an art explorer guide, a scavenger-hunt-style activity that invites participants to look closely, make discoveries and engage more deeply with works on view.
Every Family Day includes special Art Cares projects focused on well-being and emotional expression through art. Complimentary bus service is available from Coconut Grove, Little Havana and Little River on select Sundays.
Here’s what’s coming up:
October 26 – Costume Couture
Get into the Halloween spirit with an afternoon of costume- and mask-inspired artmaking in the Creativity Center. Families can design festive creations that celebrate imagination, transformation and the fun of dressing up.
January 25 – STEAM + Celebration
Explore the connections between science and art through light, reflection and symmetry inspired by The Kaleidoscopic and Karen Rifas’ mirrored installations. Kids can test reflective surfaces, trace light paths and design optical artworks that shift with every movement.
February 22 – Patterns of Love
Discover the beauty of geometric harmony with bold, colorful compositions inspired by Faire Foyer: Sarah Crowner in Dialogue with Etel Adnan. Families will experiment with shape, balance and connection, perfect for celebrating creativity, love and community.
March 29 – Future Forms
Reimagine the world of tomorrow through futuristic design inspired by Lawrence Lek: NOX Pavilion. Children and families can dream up glowing cityscapes and imaginative pavilions that explore technology, architecture and shared creativity.
April 26 – STEAM + Celebration
Take inspiration from Social Assembly: The Communal Table and Haegue Yang’s Coordinates of Speculative Solidarity to explore patterns in weather and plants. Families will design eco-conscious artworks using recycled materials, reflecting balance and connection with nature.
May 31 – United States Day of Creativity
Celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday with a collaborative art-making experience that highlights creativity as a unifying force. Families will explore color, texture and collective expression while contributing individual pieces to a large-scale artwork symbolizing a shared, multifaceted identity, one creative nation connected through art.
June 28 – Fold & Flow
Unfold the art of geometry through paper, color and pattern inspired by Sarah Morris’s Calypte Anna (Origami). Participants will craft kaleidoscopic designs that shift and change with every fold, exploring how movement transforms form.
July 26 – Beach Stones & Bright Tones
Dive into summer color and texture with inspiration from The Kaleidoscopic. Families will use vibrant hues and layered materials to create faceted, playful compositions echoing the sparkle and warmth of Miami Beach.
