Starting: 4:00 PM
Cultural identity, tradition and social tension intersect in this intimate portrait of a Sephardic family navigating life in a divided religious community.
By Day Nor By Night screens Monday, September 8 at the Alan & Diane Lieberman Theater at the Michael-Ann Russell JCC. Set in the ultra-Orthodox city of Bnei Brak, this Israeli drama follows Shmuel and his son Rafael as they confront systemic barriers within a predominantly Ashkenazi yeshiva system. When Rafael is denied access to a prestigious school despite his academic excellence, Shmuel challenges the bias head-on only to face further complications when an unexpected tragedy shifts the course of their lives. With thoughtful detail, the film examines the complexities of belonging, religious hierarchy and the fine line between justice and consequence.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with kosher wine, popcorn and conversation. Admission is free and open to ages 25 and up.
