First Look: Zak Ové Presents "Jouvert"

An artist-led preview offers early access to a major new public art installation in the Miami Design District as Zak Ové presents J’OUVERT in Jungle Plaza.

British-Trinidadian artist Zak Ové unveils J’OUVERT, a large-scale installation that transforms Jungle Plaza into an immersive environment where Afrofuturist imagination, ancestral memory and ritual converge. The installation brings together two of Ové’s monumental works: The Mothership Connection, a nearly 30-foot-tall totemic sculpture referencing African architecture, diasporic symbolism and speculative futures, and The Invisible Man and the Masque of Blackness, a surrounding group of sculptural figures that engage questions of visibility, identity and collective presence in public space.

During this first-look event, guests will experience the installation alongside the artist, gaining insight into the conceptual influences, cultural references and creative process behind the work. The preview offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with Ové’s vision before the installation opens fully to the public.
