Herencia Cubana: Boleros, Ayer y Hoy

Cuban boleros from the genre’s golden era receive orchestral treatment in a season-closing concert featuring vocalists Noelia Zanón and Lázaro Horta. The performance takes place Sunday, August 30, at the Miami Senior High School Theater. Presented by the Florida Chamber Orchestra and Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series, the program marks the orchestra’s 30th anniversary.

Selections include “Dos Gardenias,” “Contigo en la Distancia,” “Lágrimas Negras,” “Te Extraño” and “Bésame Mucho.” Zanón brings an expressive vocal style to the repertoire, while pianist, singer and songwriter Horta contributes arrangements shaped by refined harmonies and Cuban musical traditions.

The concert also recognizes Maestro Urbay on his 89th birthday and his contributions to Cuban popular, traditional and symphonic music. Marlene Urbay directs and produces the program, continuing the orchestra’s longstanding commitment to Hispanic musical heritage.
