Herp Tour

Get an up-close look at South Florida’s reptiles and amphibians during a guided exploration of the Deering Estate’s protected natural areas.

The Herp Tour takes place every second Saturday through October 11 and begins with a preview of the Estate’s captive herp specimens, including native and exotic species like the red-tailed boa. Led by a Deering Estate naturalist, this program offers insight into how these animals live in both wild and urban environments, followed by a field excursion into restricted areas of the property where participants can observe wildlife in their natural habitat.

Guests are encouraged to document their findings using the iNaturalist app. Tickets are $20 per person for ages 4 and up and must be purchased in advance online—there are no on-site ticket sales or walk-ins permitted. Attendees should meet at the Deering Estate Visitor Center and come prepared for outdoor conditions, including bugs and muddy terrain. Comfortable closed-toe shoes, long sleeves, bottled water and a flashlight are recommended.
