History of Art: Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art

A Spanish-language lecture traces the contrasting approaches of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art at the Doral Cultural Arts Center. Taking place Thursday, December 3, the program is part of the City of Doral’s recurring History of Art series, with each installment examining different movements that shaped modern and contemporary art.

Led by William Alonso, the session considers how artists including Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein responded to emotion, gesture, mass media and consumer culture. The discussion explores how these movements reshaped artistic practice in the mid-20th century, from large-scale abstraction and expressive color fields to imagery drawn from advertising, comics and everyday life.

The lecture is presented entirely in Spanish and is open to all ages.
