A multi-day rodeo tradition returns to South Miami-Dade with three performances celebrating competition, community and longstanding Western heritage.
The Homestead Championship Rodeo takes place January 30-February 1 at the Harris Field Doc Demilly Rodeo Arena, marking the 77th annual edition of the event. Presented by Downrite Engineering and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, the weekend features a full slate of Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association–style competitions alongside themed performances honoring charitable causes and community members.
The opening night on Friday, January 30, is designated “Tough Enough to Wear Pink,” encouraging attendees to wear pink in support of breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the PRCA’s Wrangler initiative. Gates open at 6 p.m., with the performance beginning at 8 p.m.
Saturday, January 31, serves as Dedication Day, with gates opening at noon and competition starting at 2 p.m. The afternoon performance includes a special tribute to late members of the Homestead Rodeo Association and the local community, followed by the Homestead Rodeo Prime Rib Dinner & Dance.
The final performance on Sunday, February 1, observes Wrangler National Patriot Day, honoring wounded and fallen service members and their families. Attendees are encouraged to wear red, white and blue. Gates open at noon, with the performance beginning at 2 p.m.
Each performance includes barrel racing, bull riding, women’s breakaway roping, tie-down roping, team roping, saddle bronc and bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling and the crowning of an all-around champion. Specialty acts include John Harrison and the Homestead Everglades Posse. Tickets are limited and subject to venue capacity.
