A program rooted in the musical traditions of Austria will bring a blend of wit, elegance and transcendence to the New World Center this December.

Manfred Honeck, Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, returns to conduct Fellows of the New World Symphony in a program highlighting orchestral masterpieces from his homeland. The evening begins with Johann Strauss’s lively Overture to Die Fledermaus, followed by Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 93 in D major, a work full of invention and humor. The concert culminates with Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 in G major, a radiant piece known for its evocation of childlike wonder and a vision of heaven.
Celebrated for his distinctive interpretations and profound musicianship, Honeck brings a wealth of international experience and a personal connection to this repertoire. His career spans major orchestras and festivals worldwide, and his extensive recording work with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has earned multiple GRAMMY® nominations and awards.
This concert offers a musical journey through the refined elegance of Vienna to Mahler’s imaginative and deeply human vision of the afterlife.
