Human Above All: Recovering Humanity is a thought-provoking exhibition presented at the City of Miami Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum, a historic site that reflects a not-so-distant past. Challenging visitors to look beyond circumstances and see the humanity in one another, the exhibition explores how compassion and dignity can coexist with accountability. Featuring the powerful documentary work of Eric Bridges of Otherside of 305 and photographer Amanda Gomez, the exhibition pairs compelling stories and photographic encounters with the museum’s historic setting. Curated by Terrance Cribbs-Lorrant, it examines the complex intersections of joy, freedom, substance abuse, grief, unresolved trauma, homelessness, and the social conditions that can limit an individual’s choices. Ultimately, Human Above All: Recovering Humanity invites visitors to approach others with greater humility, empathy, and understanding, reminding us that before we are defined by our circumstances or judged by our choices, we are all human.
