Icons & Innovators

Neoclassical grandeur, new choreography and a modern take on Americana come together as Miami City Ballet presents Icons & Innovators at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Running Friday, March 26 through Sunday, March 28, the program pairs a landmark George Balanchine ballet with a world premiere by Tiler Peck and a contemporary work by Justin Peck.

Balanchine’s Tschaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 2, created in 1941, draws on the scale and formality of the Russian Imperial ballet tradition while showcasing the musical clarity and speed associated with his neoclassical style. Tiler Peck, acclaimed as both a ballerina and choreographer, contributes a newly commissioned work created for Miami City Ballet.

The program concludes with Justin Peck’s Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes, set to Aaron Copland’s score and built around athletic movement, shifting ensemble patterns and an expansive sense of American rhythm. Together, the three works trace a line from ballet tradition to contemporary choreographic voices.
