In Conversation: On the Familiar and Strange

Join a discussion exploring artistic perspectives on South Florida's unique environment and speculative futures during In Conversation: On the Familiar and Strange on Thursday, May 29, at the Bakehouse Art Complex.

The program will feature artists Christine Cortes, Lee Pivnik, and Zoe Schweiger, whose works are currently on display in the Strange Natures exhibition at the Swenson Gallery. Moderated by Bakehouse Curatorial + Public Programs Manager Krys Ortega, the conversation will delve into how themes of care, resilience and speculative world-building are addressed in relation to South Florida’s ecology and the artists’ individual practices.

The discussion will also explore how each artwork engages with the balance between the familiar and the strange, as well as the present and potential futures. After the conversation, attendees are invited to visit the artists' studios, where refreshments will be served.
