A new group exhibition comes to the Miami Design District during Miami Art Week, gathering 25 emerging and established artists whose work reflects the shifting terrain of contemporary image-making. Through painting, sculpture, digital collage, fashion and mixed media, the exhibition highlights creators who draw from past and present, reworking historical references while shaping distinctly current visual languages.
That Was Then, This Is Now, presented by Jeffrey Deitch and organized by American Art Projects, features artists whose influences span Pop Art, the Cool School, Hollywood cinema, muralism, commercial design, the internet and spiritual and cultural traditions. Together, their works outline a broad snapshot of how a new generation processes cultural memory and reinvents familiar forms through experimentation and cross-disciplinary approaches.
Participating artists include Michael Alvarez, Ignacio Gatica, Mario Ayala, Elizabeth Englander, Zoe Blue M., Matt McCormick, Ozzie Juarez, Max Xeno Karnig, Francesco Igory Deiana, Henry Gunderson, Lindsey Lou Howard, Alfonso Gonzalez Jr., Reginald Sylvester II, Karla Kaplun, Kelsey Isaacs, Titus McBeath, Sonya Sombreuil, Sharif Farrag, Adrian Schachter, Aaron Elvis Jupin, Marius Steiger, Sara Yukiko, Liza Jo Eilers, Leyla Faye and Hannah Taurins.
On view from December 2 through January 2 at 119 NE 41st St. in the Miami Design District, the exhibition is part of the district’s Miami Art Week programming.
