Jobim and the Music of Brazil

Bossa nova, samba and choro receive an orchestral jazz treatment in a tribute to Antônio Carlos “Tom” Jobim and the music of Brazil. The concert takes place Friday, November 6, at 8 p.m. at the Adrienne Arsht Center, opening the 2026-27 Jazz Roots Series. The program anticipates the centennial of the composer whose work helped bring bossa nova to international audiences.

Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winning pianist and vocalist Eliane Elias joins clarinetist Anat Cohen, Brazilian jazz group Trio da Paz and pianist Shelly Berg, with symphonic accompaniment by the Frost School of Music’s Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. Elias blends Brazilian traditions with jazz, classical music and original composition, while Cohen has become a prominent interpreter of choro, samba and bossa nova.

Formed in 1985, Trio da Paz features guitarist Romero Lubambo, bassist Nilson Matta and drummer Duduka Da Fonseca, whose credits include work with Jobim, Astrud Gilberto, Dianne Reeves, Yo-Yo Ma and other leading figures in jazz and Brazilian music. Together, the ensemble will explore Jobim’s compositions within a broader survey of Brazilian jazz, moving from bossa nova’s understated rhythms to the pulse of samba and the intricate melodies of choro.
