Competitive card play meets community celebration at this Juneteenth event hosted by the City of North Miami. Designed for seasoned Spades players and casual spectators alike, this tournament blends high-stakes gameplay with food, music and cultural pride.
The Juneteenth Spades Tournament takes place Saturday, June 14 at the Joe Celestin Center. Players can enter solo or as a team to compete in a structured tournament format facilitated by Cookout Spades. Rules include first-to-350-point wins (500 in the championship), partner bidding and strict guidelines on dealing, scoring and conduct. A Boston is worth 200 points, reneging twice results in forfeiture and phones are prohibited at the table.
Hosted by comedian TP Miller with music by DJ Q305, the event also features Southern-style food from Southern Belle’s Kitch’n, door prizes and giveaways. Each entry includes a food and drink ticket. Spectator passes are available for those who want to enjoy the atmosphere without joining the competition.
Entry is $25 for individuals, $40 for teams and $20 for spectators. Registration is limited. Early sign-up is recommended to secure a spot at the table.
