La Historia del Zoológico

weekly on Sunday, Friday, Saturday - Through Nov 15, 2026
Fri-Sat: 8:30 PM | Sun: 5:00 PM
A tense encounter between two strangers on a Central Park bench becomes a study of isolation, class, language and identity in a bilingual staging of Edward Albee’s The Zoo Story. Presented November 6–15 at Westchester Cultural Arts Center, Arca Images’ production reimagines Peter as Anglo-American and Jerry as Hispanic, placing the play’s social tensions in the context of contemporary Miami.
Directed by Carlos Celdrán, La Historia del Zoológico unfolds in Spanish and English, with simultaneous English translation provided for the Spanish dialogue. The adaptation uses the characters’ linguistic and cultural differences to deepen Albee’s exploration of loneliness, social divisions and the need for human connection.
The production is presented by Arca Images and Miami-Dade County Auditorium as part of MDCA’s Away From Home Series, which brings performances to partner venues while the auditorium undergoes renovations. Recommended for ages 12 and older.
