From: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
French chamber music from the Art Nouveau era fills the historic sanctuary of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in a program by Orchestra Miami musicians. La Musique Nouvelle: Art Nouveau in France takes place Saturday, June 13, as part of Orchestra Miami’s Saturdays at Trinity Chamber Music Series. The concert explores music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period marked by rich harmonies, theatrical color and shifting influences between Romanticism and Impressionism.
The program includes Gabriel Fauré’s Piano Quartet in C minor, Pablo Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy on themes from Georges Bizet’s opera and Maurice Ravel’s Cinq mélodies populaires grecques, performed by tenor Gerardo José Ortega. The concert concludes with Francis Poulenc’s Wind Sextet, a witty and inventive work that has become a staple of the woodwind repertoire.
Performers include Orchestra Miami concertmaster Mei Mei Luo, violinist Anthony Seepersad, violist Mujan Hosseinzadeh, cellist Ashley Garritson, flutist Elissa Lakofsky, oboist Kendra Hawley, clarinetist Richard Hancock, bassoonist Gabrielle Hsu and Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi at the piano, joined by Ortega as guest tenor. Admission is pay what you wish, with a wine and bubbly reception with the artists following the performance.
