La Pluma o La Espada by Astrid Hadad takes place Saturday, April 18 at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center. Part of FUNDarte’s 2025–2026 season, the performance is co-presented with Roxy Theater Group and the Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series.
Set in colonial Mexico, the production centers on the lives of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and the Nun Alférez—one wielding the pen, the other the sword. Though both lived within convent walls, their fates unfold in dramatically different directions. Through Hadad’s signature blend of music, costume and cultural commentary, La Pluma o La Espada brings the complexities of the Baroque period to life while reimagining its heroines with wit and theatrical flair.
