Leading From the Front & Embracing Innovation

Starting: 8:00 PM
Urban design and the human side of business growth connect new books by architecture critic Paul Goldberger and restaurateur Danny Meyer. The authors discuss their work Saturday, November 21 at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus’s Chapman Conference Center in downtown Miami, as part of Miami Book Fair.
In The Imperfect City: Design, Serendipity, and the Real Life of Cities, Goldberger examines how cities benefit when planning leaves room for unexpected encounters, improvisation and change. Drawing on examples from around the world, he considers how architects and planners accommodate the unpredictable elements of urban life. A Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic, Goldberger wrote for The New York Times and The New Yorker and is the author of Why Architecture Matters and Building Art: The Life and Work of Frank Gehry.
Meyer’s What Could Possibly Go Right? The Essential Journey to Scale an Enduring Culture explores how organizations can grow while sustaining the relationships and values that define them. Drawing on two decades of leadership experience, the founder of Shake Shack and Union Square Hospitality Group extends the hospitality philosophy introduced in his bestselling book Setting the Table.
The session begins at 5:30 p.m. in Building 3, second floor, Room 3210. Admission is free with a paid Saturday Street Fair ticket, but a separate event ticket is required. A copy of the book is not included.
