Mapping Miami’s Ancient Sites Lecture
Jul 19, 2025
From: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Learn about Miami’s indigenous past during this illustrated lecture examining the city’s ancient archaeological landscape. Held Saturday, July 19 at the Deering Estate Visitor Center theater, Mapping Miami’s Ancient Sites features local artist and historian William Keddell in a presentation focused on the legacy of the Tequesta and other Native peoples who shaped the region long before modern development.
Keddell will explore recent excavations and what they reveal about Miami as a longstanding center of Indigenous life. The one-hour lecture will be followed by a Q&A session. Drawing from his own background in visual art and historical research, Keddell brings a unique perspective to the layered histories beneath the city’s surface.
