Mi Masa Es Tu Masa: Heirloom Corn & Masa-Making Workshop
Oct 25, 2026
From: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Heirloom corn, nixtamalization and traditional masa-making come together in a hands-on cooking workshop at Vizcaya Village. Held Sunday, October 25, Mi Masa Es Tu Masa explores the cultural significance of corn-based foodways while giving participants practical experience preparing fresh masa.
Facilitated by Isabella Martinez-Aleman and sponsored by Masienda, the session combines discussion of ancestral eating traditions, digestive health and the role of food in cultural identity with a guided masa-making activity. Participants will learn techniques used across Latin America and leave with enough fresh masa to make tortillas, arepas or empanadas at home.
The workshop is part of Vizcaya Village’s Harvest Festival Market, which continues with live music, local vendors, seasonal activities, chef demonstrations, trick-or-treating and a pumpkin patch. Market admission does not include access to Vizcaya’s Main House and formal gardens.
