Contemporary dance responds to visual art in a series of performances throughout the galleries at Pérez Art Museum Miami. Taking place Thursday, November 19 and Saturday, November 21, the Miami DanceMakers Alumni Celebration Performances mark the program’s first five years with new and revised works inspired by artwork on view.
The featured alumni bring varied approaches to movement and choreography:
- Deja Darbonne: A performer whose experience spans classical ballet and contemporary dance, Darbonne creates works exploring identity, memory, belonging and self-discovery.
- Stephanie Franco: The Cuban American choreographer and educator investigates cultural identity and interdisciplinary collaboration through contemporary movement. She performs with Olujimi Dance Collective and Peter London Global Dance Company.
- Clinton Harris: A multidisciplinary artist and performer with Peter London Global Dance Company and Adele Myers & Dancers, Harris explores identity, memory and human connection through dance, film and performance art.
- Erika Loyola: The Ecuadorian dance artist and intercultural educator is artistic director of Interculturales and performs with Olujimi Dance Collective.
-
Rafael Ruiz-del-Vizo: A Miami native and principal dancer with Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami, Ruiz-del-Vizo is also a guest choreographer and co-founder of Syncopate Collective.
Launched in 2021, Miami DanceMakers supports Miami-based choreographers early in their careers through commissions, mentorship, networking and performance opportunities.
Performances are scheduled as follows:
- Thursday, November 19: 7–8:30 p.m.
- Saturday, November 21: Noon–1:30 p.m. and 3–4:30 p.m.
The program is free with RSVP. Capacity is limited, with priority gallery entry for registered guests and admission on a first-come, first-served basis.
