MIGF 2027 GuitART Festival: Homage to Ralph Towner
Jan 28, 2027
From: 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Brazilian guitarist Alieksey Vianna pays tribute to the late Ralph Towner in a concert exploring the guitarist-composer’s distinctive approach to acoustic jazz and cross-genre composition. Held Thursday, January 28 as part of the annual Miami International GuitART Festival, the program features Vianna performing Towner’s music with jazz pianist Mike Eckroth.
Towner, whose work bridged jazz with classical, folk and other acoustic traditions, is remembered for an approach centered on nuanced ensemble playing, harmonic color and the expressive possibilities of the acoustic guitar. Vianna and Eckroth revisit that musical language through a program devoted to his compositions.
The 2027 Miami International GuitART Festival runs January 22–31 with daily concerts, master classes, lectures and a Luthiers Expo. A festival pass is available for access to events throughout the 10-day program.
