Monday Night Movie at Lakou
May 19, 2025
From: 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
An outdoor film screening, live DJ set and locally inspired cocktails come together for an evening that blends community gathering with cultural reflection.
Monday Night Movie at Lakou takes place on Monday, May 19, with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. The evening centers around a screening of The Last Meal, a short film directed by Maryse Legagneur that follows a Haitian man facing terminal illness as he reconnects with his daughter through shared meals and memories. Presented in Haitian Creole with subtitles, the film is part of a program honoring Haitian Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month.
DJ Mack will provide music throughout the night, setting the tone in Lakou’s open-air courtyard. Prior to the film, curator Jean H Marcelin—co-founder of the Black Lounge Film Series—will introduce the screening and share context about the film's themes. Seating is limited; guests are encouraged to bring blankets or pillows for comfort.
Food and drinks, including signature cocktails by mixologist Joseph Jebelean, will be available for purchase at The Yard Bar. The event is free to attend, open to all ages (under 21 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian), and includes complimentary venue parking.
