Museum and a Movie: Salvatore-Shoemaker of Dreams

Salvatore Ferragamo’s path from southern Italy to Hollywood and Florence comes into focus through a documentary screening paired with a related exhibition at The Wolfsonian-FIU in Miami Beach. Presented Friday, November 13, the program connects Luca Guadagnino’s 2020 film Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams with Foot Notes: Shoes, Symbolism, and Society, which features Ferragamo’s 1938 Rainbow sandal.

Using archival footage and interviews, the documentary traces Ferragamo’s rise from young shoemaker to designer for Hollywood stars, while examining the craftsmanship, experimentation and imagination behind his work. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to explore the exhibition before the screening.

Presented with the Miami Film Festival, the Consulate General of Italy in Miami and the Italian Cultural Institute in Miami, admission is $5 and free for Wolfsonian members.
