New Music Miami Festival Fall Concert
Sep 17, 2026
From: 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Contemporary chamber music for violin and cello takes focus in a fall edition of FIU’s New Music Miami Festival at The Betsy in South Beach. Presented Thursday, September 17, the concert features violinist Mari-Liis Pakk and cellist Jason Calloway, with commentary by composer and festival founder Orlando Jacinto Garcia.
The program pairs Garcia’s fragmented light with works by composers Chinary Ung, Mena Mark Hanna and Toshio Hosokawa. Ranging from solo cello to violin-cello duos, the selections reflect the festival’s focus on contemporary classical music and composers working across different cultural and musical traditions.
Founded by Garcia, the New Music Miami ISCM Festival has presented contemporary composers and performers in South Florida for nearly three decades. Garcia is a Distinguished University Professor and composer-in-residence at Florida International University, while Calloway is a member of FIU’s artist-in-residence Amernet String Quartet. Admission is free.
