Soulful vocals and genre-spanning collaborations set the tone when PJ Morton joins Nu Deco Ensemble for a season highlight at the Adrienne Arsht Center.
Nu Deco ft. PJ Morton & Friends takes place Friday, December 19 as part of Nu Deco Ensemble’s 11th Season. The program features a world-premiere symphonic suite celebrating the 50th anniversary of Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life, Courtney Bryan’s piano concerto House of Pianos, a new Nu Deco original work, and special collaborations with Morton and his guests, singers Darrel Walls and Susan Carol and trumpeter Keyon Harrold.
Based in New Orleans, Morton is a five-time GRAMMY winner and 20-time nominee who has also been recognized by BET, Soul Train and the NAACP Image Awards. In addition to his role as Maroon 5’s longtime keyboardist, he has released solo projects on his own Morton Records label, collaborated with artists from Stevie Wonder to Jill Scott, and recently created original music for Disney’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. His 2024 album Cape Town to Cairo was written and recorded during a month-long journey across Africa, accompanied by his debut memoir, Saturday Night, Sunday Morning.
Founded in 2015 by Jacomo Bairos and Sam Hyken, Nu Deco Ensemble is a Miami-based hybrid orchestra acclaimed for pushing the boundaries of symphonic music. Known for its cross-genre reimaginings and collaborations with artists across the musical spectrum, the ensemble has been praised by The New York Times as a “chamber orchestra for the 21st century.”
