Rattan Weaving Workshop with Meital Katz-Minerbo
Aug 23, 2026
From: 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
Flexible rattan fibers become decorative, functional objects in a hands-on workshop led by visual artist Meital Katz-Minerbo. The session takes place Sunday, August 23 at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, connecting traditional weaving techniques with the relationship between horticulture, craft and women’s creative practices.
Katz-Minerbo will begin with an artist talk examining rattan weaving’s history and its role in her installation-based practice. Participants will then learn basic techniques for shaping the climbing palm into a custom object, working with the material while it is moistened to increase its flexibility.
Attendees should wear clothing suitable for hands-on work and expect to get slightly wet. The workshop is open to participants ages 15 and older, with a parent or guardian required for minors.
