Remembering MTT
Dec 20, 2026
Starting: 2:00 PM
Chamber music by Michael Tilson Thomas and composers who shaped his musical world anchors a New World Symphony program honoring its co-founder. Remembering MTT takes place Sunday, December 20 at the New World Center in Miami Beach. Performed by Fellows of the New World Symphony, the concert reflects on Tilson Thomas’ music, influences and lasting connection to the institution he helped create.
The program includes two selections from Tilson Thomas’ Upon Further Reflection, alongside works by Robert Schumann, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, David Del Tredici and Amy Beach. Selections range from Schumann’s Andante and Variations and Copland’s Nonet to Bernstein’s “Meditation No. 3” from Mass and Beach’s Piano Quintet, creating a chamber program that moves between lyricism, wit, reflection and American musical legacy.
New World Symphony Fellows are early-career musicians selected for the organization’s postgraduate orchestral fellowship program. Based at the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center, the ensemble trains through performances, mentorship and work with leading conductors, soloists and visiting faculty.
