Two pillars of Romantic-era chamber music are recast for viola and piano in a recital by Frost faculty members Jodi Levitz and Ana Ivanchenko. Romantic Giants: Masterworks Reimagined takes place Thursday, February 11 at Newman Recital Hall as part of the Frost School of Music’s 2026-2027 season. The program pairs sonatas by Frédéric Chopin and Sergei Rachmaninoff, bringing the viola’s dark, resonant voice to music more commonly associated with other instrumental settings.
Levitz and Ivanchenko approach the works as chamber partners, highlighting the sweeping lyricism, dramatic contrasts and technical demands that define both composers’ Romantic styles.
