"Marking the Way Home", screening at the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) on Saturday, May 24, chronicles Parlá’s early influences, his battle with COVID-19, and his return to his hometown through his first major solo exhibition in Miami. The short documentary also features commentary from artists KAWS, Hank Willis Thomas and Lee Quiñones, as well as institutional leaders such as Anne Pasternak of the Brooklyn Museum and Sarah Arison of the Arison Arts Foundation.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with José Parlá, filmmaker Lazaro Llanes and PAMM Associate Curator Maritza Lacayo, offering deeper insights into the making of the film and the themes of the exhibition.
