Single Reed Celebration
Jan 29, 2027
Starting: 7:30 PM
Clarinet and saxophone share the spotlight in a chamber recital exploring the contrasting colors and expressive range of two single-reed instruments. The concert takes place Friday, January 29 at Newman Recital Hall as part of the Frost School of Music’s 2026-2027 season, with clarinetist Mark Nuccio and saxophonist Dale Underwood joined by pianist Oleksii Ivanchenko. The program spans varied repertoire for clarinet and saxophone, highlighting both instruments in solo and collaborative settings.
Nuccio is principal clarinetist of the Houston Symphony and a Frost faculty member who previously spent 17 years with the New York Philharmonic. Underwood, professor of saxophone at Frost, performed for three decades as principal saxophonist and soloist with the U.S. Navy Band. Ivanchenko, a Ukrainian-born pianist and Frost lecturer, has developed an extensive career as a collaborative pianist alongside solo performances.
Admission is free with RSVP.
