Tom Cruise takes to the skies as hotshot Navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in an outdoor screening of Top Gun at SoundScape Park in Miami Beach. The Wednesday, May 26 presentation closes the 17th season of the free SoundScape Cinema Series, which projects films onto the 7,000-square-foot wall of the New World Center.
Directed by Tony Scott, the 1986 action drama follows Maverick and his radar intercept officer, Goose, as they enter the Navy’s elite fighter weapons school and compete against top pilots including rival Iceman. Maverick’s confidence is tested by romance, competition and a devastating loss that forces him to confront the risks of flying at the edge of his abilities.
The PG-rated film is presented outdoors, rain or shine. Attendees may bring blankets and picnic baskets for the screening.
