Sueño
Sep 17, 2026 - Sep 19, 2026
Starting: 7:00 PM
A fast-moving reimagining of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream turns four performers into an entire cast of lovers, actors and magical beings at the Koubek Center. Presented as part of the 40th International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami, Sueño comes from Argentina’s Compañía Criolla and is written and directed by Emiliano Dionisi. The family-friendly production combines physical theater, poetry, music and humor in a contemporary approach to the Shakespearean comedy.
The story follows a troupe of performers who gather in a forest to rehearse, unaware that supernatural inhabitants are ready to interfere with their emotions and desires. Emiliano Dionisi, Lucia Baya Casal, Tomas Castiglione and Julia Garriz shift among the play’s many characters, using an ensemble-driven style to explore love, freedom and the tension between personal desire and social expectations.
Since premiering in 2021, the production has given more than 300 performances and appeared at international festivals. Its honors include recognition at Spain’s Festival de Teatro Clásico de Almagro, Argentina’s Fiesta Nacional del Teatro and the ATINA, ACE and María Guerrero awards.
Performances take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 17 through Saturday, September 19.
