Sunset Salons at Vizcaya: Blown Away
Apr 22, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
A historical lecture explores the dramatic events that reshaped Miami during one of the city’s most turbulent years. Sunset Salons at Vizcaya: Blown Away – How Disasters Wreaked Havoc on Miami takes place Wednesday, April 22 in the Main House courtyard at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in Miami.
The program examines Miami in 1926, a pivotal year when natural and human-made disasters pushed the rapidly growing city to the brink of collapse. Through a discussion of the region’s environment, civic life and development pressures, the talk highlights how these challenges ultimately helped shape the foundations of modern Miami.
The evening features historian and educator Matthew Bunch, a social sciences teacher at the School for Advanced Studies, Kendall Campus, and host of the award-winning podcast This Day in Miami History. Doors open at 7 p.m. with complimentary wine, followed by the presentation beginning at 7:30 p.m.
