Original compositions take center stage as the Frost Jazz Orchestra returns to Gusman Concert Hall for its fourth annual live album recording.
The Centennial Set: Frost Jazz Orchestra takes place Thursday, April 9 at the University of Miami’s Gusman Concert Hall. Under the direction of Dr. John Daversa, the award-winning ensemble presents a program of new works written by members of the orchestra in honor of the University of Miami’s and the Frost School of Music’s Centennial.
The concert highlights the distinct compositional voices within Frost’s premier large jazz ensemble, offering a wide-ranging evening of contemporary big band music shaped by student composers. From intricate horn writing to rhythmically adventurous charts, the performance reflects both the tradition and forward-looking spirit that define the program.
As part of its ongoing “Live in Gusman Hall” recording series, the orchestra captures the energy of the moment in front of a live audience, continuing a tradition that documents the ensemble’s evolving sound and creative ambition.
