The Expanding Man

Steely Dan’s jazz-inflected rock, intricate harmonies and sharply drawn songwriting provide the foundation for a concert that pairs familiar songs with original music. The performance takes place Thursday, December 17, at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. Rather than recreating the recordings note for note, The Expanding Man combines tribute performances with improvisation, humor and new material inspired by Walter Becker and Donald Fagen.

The program includes songs such as “Peg,” “Josie,” “Reelin’ in the Years” and “Kid Charlemagne.” Steve Memmolo, a finalist on NBC’s The Voice, fronts the band with guitarist Jon Zeeman and pianist-composer Peter Primamore.

Zeeman’s performance credits include work with Susan Tedeschi and members of The Allman Brothers Band, while Primamore brings experience as an award-winning composer. Together, the ensemble approaches Steely Dan’s catalog through polished musicianship, spontaneous interplay and a contemporary live-band perspective.
