A touring production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical brings the story of Maria and the von Trapp family to the Adrienne Arsht Center. Running February 9 through 14, 2027, the engagement is part of the 2026–27 Broadway in Miami season in the Ziff Ballet Opera House. The production presents a renewed staging of a work that has remained a fixture of musical theater for decades.
Set in Austria on the eve of World War II, the story follows Maria, a young novice who becomes governess to the von Trapp children, introducing music and warmth into their household as political tensions rise around them. The narrative explores themes of family, resilience and personal conviction, underscored by a score that includes songs such as “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and “Edelweiss.”
Directed by Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien, the production reflects the enduring appeal of a musical that has been widely adapted for stage and screen. With music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, the show continues to connect with audiences through its combination of storytelling and song.
