Third Thursdays: Subtropic Film Festival

Independent films by emerging South Florida filmmakers come to The Bass for an evening highlighting new voices and approaches to regional storytelling. The program takes place Thursday, February 18 as part of the museum’s Third Thursdays series and features work connected to the Subtropic Film Festival. This year’s theme, Between Two Waters, considers South Florida through the meeting points of ocean and Everglades, environmental change and the region’s intersecting cultures.

Subtropic Film Festival is a South Florida independent film festival focused on developing and showcasing regional filmmakers through screenings, workshops and other industry programs. Its 2026 edition takes place in the West Palm Beach area, extending its focus on the distinctive communities, landscapes and creative perspectives shaping filmmaking across South Florida.

Third Thursdays brings rotating programs of film, storytelling, poetry, history, community conversations and site-specific projects to The Bass in Miami Beach. Admission is free with RSVP, with seating and standing room available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event coincides with the City of Miami Beach Culture Crawl, which offers free trolley service among participating cultural destinations.
