Trees: A Live Cinema Documentary
Mar 27, 2027
Starting: 2:00 PM
Live narration, archival footage, interviews and orchestral music come together in a documentary performance exploring humanity’s relationship with trees. The live cinema event takes place Saturday, March 27 at New World Center in Miami Beach as part of New World Symphony’s 2026-2027 season. Conducted by Stéphane Denève, the program assembles film, spoken word and live music on stage in real time.
Directed and performed by filmmaker Sam Green, Trees: A Live Cinema Documentary considers trees as witnesses to human history, environmental change and the passage of generations. The work features archival footage and interviews, including appearances by figures such as Dame Judi Dench, alongside a score by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw.
The project is written by Green and Rebecca Solnit, with cinematography by Yoni Brook and editing by Gabriel Rhodes. Produced by ArKtype and Josh Penn, the performance continues Green’s live documentary approach, blending cinema, narration and music into an event shaped by both film and concert presentation.
