Turntable Sharks: Turning Tables, Shaping Futures
Nov 20, 2026
From: 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Turntable skills, music education and community engagement come together in a Miami Book Fair program highlighting the work of Scott McCartney, known as DJ Smoove. Turntable Sharks: Turning Tables, Shaping Futures takes place Friday, November 20 at the Off the Shelf Stage at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus in Downtown Miami.
An adjunct professor and 28-year U.S. Coast Guard veteran, McCartney developed a three-credit DJ curriculum at MDC’s Kendall Campus and founded the Turntable Sharks DJ Club, giving students opportunities to perform and curate campus events. His nonprofit, the S Foundation, extends music education and turntable instruction to underserved young people. Together, these initiatives approach DJing as a musical craft and a means of building community.
Admission is free.
